Immortal

A campaign for Spotify

Immortal

01The brief

In December 2023 I lost Kayla. She loved music. Two years on, in November 2025, I made this for her, and to learn some new tools while I did. The idea I could not shake: her playlists should live on, in her name. Nobody asked for it. I sent it to Spotify anyway.

02The insight

A playlist is the most personal thing most of us will ever publish. It outlives the phone, the account, the person.

Death gets the last word. Not the last song.

03The idea

IMMORTAL. Spotify keeps your playlists alive, in your name, for whoever comes after you.

The campaign puts the dead back in the crowd. A crowdsurfer, held up by the living, rendered as a scannable code. Scan the body, hear the playlist. The same device works the other way for the living: she's twelve, she wants to meet Olivia Rodrigo, press play. The platform ran from out-of-home to product. Among the ideas in the deck was a custom urn tied to the playlist.

04The making

Daylit festival crowd with phones up, a crowdsurfer rendered as a black and white code silhouette. Headline, I'm mortal. My playlist isn't.

The device. Real crowd photography, a crowdsurfer dissolved into a code you can scan. The body is the playlist. Gold type on the photograph, the Spotify mark and nothing else.

Night skyline over a crowd, a giant gold code figure against the towers. Headline, Death gets the last word. Not the last song.

The line the whole platform hangs on. Death gets the last word. Not the last song.

Black and white theatre balcony, arms raised, a code figure flying. Headline, She left this world at 28. Her playlist just hit 200 million streams, worldwide. Dense pit, a black code figure carried overhead. Headline, He was 17. He loved My Chemical Romance. His playlist carries on.

The dead, named by age and taste, not by name. She left this world at 28. Her playlist just hit 200 million streams, worldwide. He was 17. He loved My Chemical Romance. His playlist carries on.

Overhead club shot, band onstage, a gold code crowdsurfer. Headline, You can't take playlists with you. But the show must. Go. On. Night festival with inflatables, a gold code figure on shoulders. Headline, You will remember her. For centuries.

You can't take playlists with you. But the show must. Go. On. You will remember her. For centuries.

Sunlit waterfront festival under a bridge, a large gold code crowdsurfer. Headline, She's 12. She's brutal. She wants to meet Olivia Rodrigo. Press play. Packed all-ages show, a white code crowdsurfer. Headline, She's 14. She's titanium. She wants to meet Sia. Press play.

The other half of the platform is for the living. She's 12. She's brutal. She wants to meet Olivia Rodrigo. Press play. She's 14. She's titanium. She wants to meet Sia. Press play.

Outdoor venue at night, a huge gold Eff It running off the frame in perspective. Line, She's not waiting. Neither is her bucket list.

Eff it. She's not waiting. Neither is her bucket list.

05Where it lives

Shared in December 2025 with a creative lead at Spotify I had worked with before, who replied "thanks for this." On February 24, 2026, Spotify and Liquid Death announced the Eternal Playlist Urn. The full campaign, as shared, lives on omarthecreative.com. Spotify's announcement is linked below. Unsolicited. Not a Spotify production.
